Active AEC-Q101 TVS for 12 V automotive rails
The Vishay 1.5SMC13AHM3_A/I is a 1.5 kW peak-pulse Zener TVS diode in the TransZorb® series, qualified to AEC-Q101 for automotive-grade reliability. Its 11.1 V reverse standoff voltage and 12.4 V minimum breakdown make it a direct fit for protecting 12 V nominal power rails against load-dump and inductive-switching transients — the 18.2 V clamping ceiling keeps the downstream silicon inside its abs-max rating during a surge.
Pulse rating and clamp performance
The 12.4 V minimum breakdown guarantees the TVS triggers before the protected rail reaches its destructive threshold.
Package and reflow compatibility
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the 1.5SMC13AHM3_A/I uses the standard JEDEC footprint for this body size — the same pad layout serves the full 1.5SMC family, so a single PCB land pattern covers multiple voltage variants. Tape-and-reel packaging (TR) feeds directly into a pick-and-place machine; the package's tin-plated terminations are compatible with lead-free reflow profiles up to 260°C peak.
Operating junction temperature spans -65°C to 150°C — the full automotive under-hood temperature band. AEC-Q101 qualification adds the reliability screening (high-temperature reverse bias, temperature cycling, and ESD robustness) required for engine-bay, transmission-control, and body-electronics modules. The telecom application note also covers base-station and line-card surge protection where the 1.5 kW pulse rating handles lightning-induced transients per Telcordia GR-1089.
