1500W Zener TVS for general-purpose rail clamping
The 1.5SMC13A-E3/9AT: The 82.4A peak pulse current rating at the 10/1000µs waveform defines the surge-handling capacity — a 1500W device absorbing an 18.2V clamp delivers that current into the load. For a 12V rail, the 11.1V standoff ensures the diode stays out of conduction during normal operation, while the 12.4V breakdown triggers fast enough to catch transients before they reach the downstream silicon.
Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, also designated as the SMCJ footprint. The wide-body SMC case dissipates the 1500W pulse through the copper pad on the PCB — the cathode tab (marked band) carries the bulk of the thermal energy to the board plane. The -65°C to 150°C junction temperature range covers both cold-start and high-ambient environments, though derating the peak power above 25°C follows the standard exponential curve for a Zener TVS. Supplied on Tape & Reel (TR), consistent with automated pick-and-place assembly. The single unidirectional channel protects one signal or power rail; for bidirectional or AC-line applications, two devices in anti-series or a dedicated bidirectional variant is needed.
Sourcing and compliance
Vishay General Semiconductor - Diodes Division continues to manufacture the 1.5SMC series, and this order code is available for new designs as well as production replenishment. The part carries the TransZorb trademark, Vishay's branded TVS technology. For a different standoff voltage, the 1.5SMC series offers a full range from 5.0V to 170V.
