AEC-Q101 Zener TVS for 12V/24V automotive bus clamping
The 1.5SMC130AHM3/H is a 1500W peak-pulse Zener TVS diode from Vishay's 1.5SMC series, qualified to AEC-Q101 for automotive-grade reliability. Its 111V reverse standoff voltage (typ) and 124V minimum breakdown voltage place it squarely on 48V or 72V DC bus rails, with enough margin to survive load-dump transients without conducting during normal operation. The clamping voltage is 179V max at the 8.4A peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform), which means a 48V nominal bus sees the TVS clamp a 1500W surge to under 180V — well within the typical 200V rating of downstream DC-DC converters and module inputs.
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the 1.5SMC130AHM3/H uses the standard JEDEC footprint for this body size. The cathode band is marked on the body; the package is rated for the full -65°C to +150°C junction temperature range, so the solder joint and board laminate must handle the reflow profile without exceeding the TVS's own temperature limits. For a 125°C ambient, the peak pulse power drops to roughly 75% of the 25°C rating.
The TransZorb® designation indicates a controlled avalanche Zener structure, not a standard TVS — the breakdown voltage is tighter and the clamping factor (Vc/Vbr) is lower than a typical MOV or suppressor diode, which matters for protecting sensitive 5V or 3.3V logic rails fed from a 48V bus.
