Active production with automotive-grade qualification
The 1.5SMC12CAHE3/9AT: The -65°C to 150°C junction rating covers under-hood and engine-bay thermal profiles.
Breakdown occurs at 11.4 V minimum, so the protection triggers before the transient exceeds the downstream component's abs-max rating in a 12 V automotive rail. A single bidirectional channel handles both positive and negative surges, eliminating the need for two unidirectional diodes in series.
DO-214AB SMC footprint and board integration
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, also designated SMCJ. The large copper tab on the cathode side (for unidirectional versions) or the body itself (bidirectional) conducts heat into the PCB copper plane — the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance depends on the pad area and the number of vias under the package. The part is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free per Vishay's standard material declaration; no special storage or bake-out beyond MSL Level 1 is required.
