Automotive-grade TVS for 12V/24V bus clamping
The 1.5SMC100CAHM3/I: It clamps transients on 85.5V nominal rails — typical for 24V truck or 48V mild-hybrid bus protection where the steady-state voltage sits below the standoff threshold. The bidirectional configuration means a single component protects both polarities on a signal or power line.
Clamping voltage and breakdown margin
Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 95V, clamping the transient to 137V maximum at the rated 10.9A peak pulse current. This 42V window between standoff and clamp gives the downstream silicon enough headroom to survive without secondary protection — the TVS absorbs the energy before the DC-DC or ECU input stage sees the spike. The DO-214AB (SMC) package handles the 1500W pulse without exceeding the junction temperature limit. Surface-mount assembly keeps the thermal path short to the PCB copper plane — the pad area under the cathode tab sets the effective thermal resistance for repetitive pulse trains.

The HM3/I suffix indicates the automotive-grade screening and the tape-and-reel packaging format.
