Clamping and surge capability
The 1.5KE8.2A/54: The clamping voltage clamps at 12.1 V maximum when the peak pulse current reaches 124 A — that 12.1 V ceiling is the voltage the protected circuit actually sees during a surge event. The reverse standoff voltage is 7.02 V typical, so the diode stays transparent below that line and only starts conducting when the transient pushes above it. Breakdown starts at 7.79 V minimum.

Housed in the DO-201AA (DO-27) axial-leaded through-hole package, the 1.5KE8.2A/54 is a hand-solderable or wave-solderable part — the axial leads insert into plated through-holes and the body stands off the board.
