The 1.5KE51-E3/54: The 1.5KE51-/54 is a 1500W peak pulse power Zener TVS from Vishay's TransZorb series, designed to clamp transients on general-purpose DC rails. Its 41.3V reverse standoff means the protected line normally sits below that voltage; when a surge hits, the device breaks down at a minimum of 45.9V and clamps the peak to 73.5V at 20.4A (10/1000µs waveform). That 73.5V ceiling is what the downstream components must survive — if your rail is 48V nominal, the clamp margin is tight and the TVS absorbs the energy before the load sees overvoltage. Unidirectional (one channel), so it protects a single polarity rail.
Through-hole axial package and board integration
Housed in a DO-201AA / DO-27 axial leaded package, this is a through-hole part — the leads are inserted into plated holes and soldered on the opposite side. The axial body sits above the board, so the thermal path is primarily through the leads into the copper; for a 1500W pulse, the lead-to-board junction is the heat sink. No exposed pad, no reflow profile to manage — hand-solder or wave-solder compatible.
