Gate drive optocoupler for industrial power stages
The Toshiba TLP5774(D4,E is a single-channel gate drive optocoupler designed to drive IGBTs and power MOSFETs in medium-power inverter, motor drive, and switched-mode power supply stages. It provides 5000Vrms of reinforced isolation between the controller-side logic and the high-voltage power rail, with a peak output current of 4A to charge and discharge the gate capacitance quickly. The 35kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) ensures the output stays in the correct state during fast voltage swings on the power bus, a requirement for reliable switching in noisy industrial environments.
Switching speed and timing margins
The 50ns maximum pulse-width distortion means the on-time and off-time skew is bounded, which simplifies dead-time calculation and reduces the risk of shoot-through at switching frequencies up to several hundred kilohertz.
Supply range and drive capability
The output supply range of 10V to 30V covers the typical gate drive voltages for standard IGBTs (15V) and MOSFETs (12V to 15V), with headroom for higher-voltage gate drives. The 1.2A source and sink capability at the output (high/low) is sufficient for driving medium-power discrete switches; the 4A peak rating handles the initial gate charge surge without droop.
Rated for operation from -40°C to 110°C, this part suits industrial motor drives, outdoor telecom rectifiers, and automotive under-hood inverter modules where ambient temperatures can exceed 85°C. The 110°C upper limit provides margin above the typical 85°C industrial ceiling, though the junction temperature must be derated per the power dissipation curve in the datasheet when driving high capacitive loads at elevated ambient.
