What this optocoupler brings to a galvanic-isolation design
The Toshiba TLP293(GB-TPL,E is a single-channel, DC-input, transistor-output optocoupler in a surface-mount package. The output transistor can handle up to 80V and 50mA, with a Vce saturation of 300mV.
The 3750Vrms isolation rating is the primary spec that determines whether this part can safely separate a high-voltage primary side from a low-voltage control side in a switched-mode power supply, motor drive, or industrial interface. The 50mA output current ceiling limits the load to a small relay coil, a logic gate input, or a status LED — anything heavier needs a driver transistor after the opto. The 100% to 600% CTR range at 5mA gives the designer a wide margin to account for LED degradation over temperature and time; a CTR at the low end still guarantees the output saturates with the right bias resistor.
Switching speed and timing
Rise and fall times are 2µs and 3µs; turn-on and turn-off times are both 3µs.
The package (0.179" body width, 4.55mm) is a standard small-outline footprint common to many Toshiba and competitor optocouplers. The surface-mount form factor suits automated assembly, and the package is compatible with reflow soldering. The tape-and-reel and cut-tape options cover both prototyping and volume production.
