Single-channel transistor-output optocoupler for 24V industrial isolation
The Toshiba TLP185(YH-TPL,SE is a single-channel DC-input transistor-output optocoupler in a 6-SOP surface-mount package. It provides 3750Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output, with a collector-emitter voltage rating of 80V and a continuous output current of 50mA per channel. The current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified at 75% minimum and 150% maximum when the input diode is driven at 5mA, giving a predictable gain window for saturating the output transistor in logic-level or low-power switching applications.
Temperature range and isolation — fit for 24V industrial signal isolation
The 3750Vrms isolation is sufficient for basic insulation in 24V industrial control systems (PLCs, motor drives, sensor interfaces) where galvanic separation between logic and field-side circuits is required. The transistor output with a 80V Vce(max) easily handles 24V supply rails with headroom for transients.
Switching speed and drive considerations
For higher-speed applications (e.g., isolated SPI or CAN), a digital isolator or high-speed optocoupler would be needed. The forward voltage is 1.25V typical at the input diode, compatible with 3.3V logic outputs when a current-limiting resistor is used.
