Hot swap controller with integrated switch and programmable protection
The UCC3915DP: It integrates the power switch internally, so the BOM stays compact — no external MOSFET needed for the pass element. Rated for a 7V to 15V supply rail and a maximum continuous output current of 4A, this part suits 12V backplanes common in telecom and industrial rack systems. The 1 mA supply current is negligible against the load budget.
Programmable fault handling — circuit breaker, current limit, fault timeout
Three programmable features — circuit breaker threshold, current limit level, and fault timeout — let the designer tune the response to the load's inrush profile. Set the current limit just above the steady-state draw and the fault timeout long enough to charge the output capacitance without nuisance tripping. The internal thermal limit provides a second-layer safeguard: if the die temperature exceeds the threshold during a sustained fault, the controller latches off rather than letting the junction run away. This is a hard shutdown, not a foldback — the system must cycle power to reset.
The supplier device package is 16-SOIC — the same footprint as the package/case, so no extra land-pattern lookup is needed. The commercial temperature grade (0°C to 70°C) limits deployment to controlled indoor environments — telecom central offices, data-center racks, and benchtop instrumentation. Not rated for outdoor or under-hood use.
Active lifecycle and RoHS3 compliance
Supplied in Tube packaging, which is the standard antistatic shipping format for SOIC devices in moderate volumes. For reel or tape-and-reel quantities, check the alternate order code suffix.
