Average current mode PFC controller in a through-hole DIP
The Texas Instruments UCC3817N is an average current mode PFC controller operating from a 12V to 17V supply rail and drawing 150 µA during startup.
Switching frequency range and what it buys you
The UCC3817N supports a switching frequency from 6 kHz to 220 kHz. That's a wide band: at the low end you can run a high-power PFC stage with larger magnetics and lower switching losses; at the high end you shrink the boost inductor and filter components for a denser layout. The frequency is set by an external resistor and capacitor on the RT/CT pin — no internal oscillator trim, so you pick the trade-off that fits your power budget and board space.
Package and temperature grade — fit for the BOM
The UCC3817N comes in a 16-pin DIP (0.300" body width, 7.62 mm row spacing) with through-hole leads. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 70°C.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The UCC3817N carries an Active lifecycle status from Texas Instruments and is ROHS3 compliant. For a BOM line that needs a through-hole PFC controller, this is a straightforward spec-in — no supply-chain gymnastics.
