Current-mode PWM controller for multi-topology power stages
The Texas Instruments UCC38084PG4 is a current-mode PWM controller that handles step-up, step-down, and step-up/step-down topologies — buck, boost, half-bridge, or push-pull — from a single 4.1 V to 15 V supply rail. It drives two transistor outputs (positive configuration) at a fixed 200 kHz switching frequency, with a maximum duty cycle of 49%. The controller includes current limit and frequency control features, plus a synchronous rectifier drive output for efficiency. Packaged in an 8-pin PDIP (through-hole), it targets low-to-medium power offline and DC-DC converters where through-hole assembly or breadboard prototyping is preferred.
Through-hole PDIP-8 — prototype-friendly, board-area tradeoff
The 8-pin PDIP (0.300" wide, 7.62 mm pitch) is a standard through-hole footprint. It sockets into a breadboard or a drilled PCB without reflow.
Active lifecycle — no obsolescence pressure
The UCC38084PG4 carries an Active product status from Texas Instruments. There is no last-time-buy notice or NRND flag. The ROHS3 compliance covers current environmental requirements.
