Topology and switching — what the 202 kHz buys you
The UCC2807D-1 is a current-mode PWM controller supporting boost, flyback, and forward converter topologies — the same part can be dropped into a 48 V telecom boost or a multi-output flyback without a controller swap. Switching at 202 kHz, the magnetics shrink below the audible band while keeping core losses manageable — a 100 kHz design re-spun to this part can use a smaller transformer for the same throughput. Maximum duty cycle is 78 %, which limits the step-up ratio in a boost but is generous enough for a flyback running from a 12 V rail to a 48 V output with a reasonable turns ratio.
Supply rails and temperature — where it sits on the board
The single output drives an external MOSFET directly — no separate gate driver needed for most applications up to a few amps of switch current.
Package and rework — 8-SOIC on the bench
The 8-SOIC (0.154" width, 3.90 mm body) is a standard gull-wing package — easy to hand-solder or reflow, and the pin pitch (1.27 mm) means you can probe every pin with a scope clip without shorting adjacent pads. Supplied in a tube — the tube is the shipping medium, not a selection parameter; the part is also orderable in tape-and-reel under alternate order codes if the pick-and-place line needs it.
Lifecycle and compliance
No synchronous rectifier output, so for high-current low-voltage rails you will need an external SR controller or a diode rectifier — the part is aimed at isolated topologies where the secondary side handles the rectification.
