The UCC27527DSDR is a dual low-side gate driver from TI, rated for 5A peak source and 5A peak sink current. That 5A figure is the current the driver can deliver into the gate capacitance during the switching transition — it determines how fast the external IGBT or N-Channel MOSFET turns on and off. With a 7 ns typical rise time and 6 ns fall time, this part keeps switching losses low in a 100 kHz+ power stage, but the fast edges demand a tight layout: the gate-drive loop (driver output → gate resistor → gate-source → source return) needs to be under 1 cm to avoid voltage overshoot on the gate.
Supply range and temperature — where it survives
The supply range spans 4.5 V to 18 V, so the same driver works on a 5 V logic rail or a 12 V gate-drive bus. The junction temperature rating goes to 140°C — that is the die temperature, not the ambient. In a motor-drive enclosure or an under-hood ECU where the ambient hits 105°C, the 140°C TJ ceiling gives enough headroom for self-heating from the 5A peaks.
Two independent channels — layout flexibility
The two driver channels are independent, each with its own inverting and non-inverting inputs. That means one channel can drive a high-side bootstrap configuration while the other drives the low-side device, or both channels can be paralleled for higher peak current into a single large IGBT gate. The independent input structure also lets you use one channel as a shoot-through protection interlock by cross-coupling the inputs — a common trick in half-bridge designs.
