4A peak drive — sizing the gate current for IGBT and MOSFET switching
The UCC27517DBVR: Rated for 4A peak source and 4A peak sink current, this single-channel low-side driver delivers the instantaneous gate charge needed to switch IGBTs and N-channel MOSFETs with minimal transition time. The 8ns typical rise time and 7ns typical fall time (into a 1nF load) determine the switching losses and the dv/dt-induced EMI spectrum — faster edges reduce dissipation but increase common-mode noise coupling through the Miller capacitance. The 4.5V to 18V supply range covers both 5V and 12V gate drive rails commonly used in motor drives, power supplies, and DC-DC converters. Logic input thresholds of 1V (VIL) and 2.4V (VIH) make it directly compatible with 3.3V and 5V PWM controllers without external level shifting.
SOT-23-5 footprint — board integration for space-constrained designs
Housed in the SOT-23-5 (SC-74A) package, the UCC27517DBVR occupies roughly 3mm × 3mm of board area — suitable for point-of-load gate drive where PCB real estate is tight. The surface-mount package supports both tape-and-reel and cut-tape procurement, with the reel quantity typically used for production runs and cut-tape for prototyping or low-volume builds. The -40°C to +140°C junction temperature rating covers industrial and automotive ambient conditions, though the part is not formally AEC-Q qualified.
