Dual 4A low-side driver for harsh environments
The UCC27424MDGNREP is a dual-channel, low-side gate driver from Texas Instruments that delivers 4A peak source and 4A peak sink current to drive N-channel or P-channel MOSFETs. The input logic thresholds are 1V (VIL) and 2V (VIH), so it is compatible with 3.3V or 5V controller outputs directly — no level-shifter needed between the PWM controller and the driver input.
Switching speed and layout constraints
Typical rise time is 20ns and fall time is 15ns driving a 1nF load — these fast edges minimise cross-conduction losses in the power stage, but they also demand a tight gate-loop layout. The 8-HVSSOP package with an exposed pad helps pull heat out of the driver, but the inductance between the driver output and the MOSFET gate must be kept under a few nH to avoid overshoot. Compared to the LM5106MM/NOPB, which is a half-bridge driver with 1.2A peak current and synchronous drive, the UCC27424MDGNREP is a simpler low-side-only part with over three times the peak current capability (4A vs 1.2A).
The -EP (Enhanced Product) designation signals the extended temperature range and tighter process controls — not automotive AEC-Q100 qualification, but suitable for many industrial and defence programs that require -55°C to 125°C operation.
