The 8 ns typical rise time and 7 ns fall time let it drive the gate charge of a medium-power FET fast enough to keep cross-conduction dead-time short in a 100–500 kHz switching converter. The bootstrap high-side supply is rated to 120 V maximum, so the part fits 48 V bus converters, 72 V telecom bricks, and motor-drive rails up to about 100 V nominal. The supply range runs from 8 V to 17 V, which covers the common 12 V bias rail used in industrial and automotive auxiliary supplies.

8-SO PowerPad — thermal and layout reality

The 8-PowerSOIC package (3.90 mm width) with an exposed thermal pad — TI calls it the PowerPad — demands a copper land on the PCB with thermal vias to the ground plane. Without that pad soldered down, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance climbs and the 140°C maximum junction temperature becomes hard to hold at full 3 A switching current.

The sibling UCC27201 differs in the logic input threshold polarity — the UCC27201 has an enable function — but both share the same 3 A drive and 120 V bootstrap rating.
