48% duty cycle — the transformer design constraint
Its 48% maximum duty cycle sets a hard ceiling on the on-time per switching cycle, which directly forces the transformer turns ratio and primary inductance to deliver the required output voltage at minimum input. Switching frequency reaches up to 500 kHz, enabling smaller magnetics and reduced transformer footprint compared to legacy 100 kHz designs. The 10 V to 30 V supply range gives headroom for unregulated bias rails common in industrial power supplies.
Through-hole package and commercial temperature grade
Housed in an 8-pin PDIP (0.300-inch body), the UC3844ANG4 is a through-hole part — no fine-pitch soldering, easy to hand-assemble or rework on a prototype board.
