The UC3709N is a dual low-side gate driver that handles both N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs from a single 5V to 40V supply rail.
The 5V to 40V supply range covers common bias rails.
For new designs, this part is a safe BOM line — no imminent LTB risk. For legacy board repair or a production line that already qualifies this DIP footprint, it remains available through independent distribution.
A functional alternative is the LM5106MM/NOPB, which is also a dual low-side driver but with non-inverting inputs, half-bridge configuration, and a wider -40°C to 125°C temperature range. The LM5106 comes in surface-mount packages only (no DIP), so it is not a pin-compatible drop-in for the UC3709N. For a through-hole replacement, the Microchip TC4427 or TC4428 series in 8-DIP is worth evaluating — same pin count, similar 1.5A drive strength, but check the supply range and logic thresholds against your design.
The UC3709N drives both N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs. Each of the two independent channels can handle either polarity, giving you flexibility to drive a synchronous rectifier pair or two independent low-side switches from one driver IC.
