Product details

Fixed 8V rail with 1.5A headroom

The UA7808CKCT is a fixed 8V output linear regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering up to 1.5 A continuous current in a TO-220-3 through-hole package. Ripple rejection is specified at 72 dB to 62 dB at 120 Hz, which is the full-wave-rectified line frequency — this regulator attenuates 120 Hz ripple from a bulk capacitor by a factor of roughly 4000 at the low end, keeping the DC rail clean for sensitive analog loads.

Thermal and protection — what the ratings mean on the bench

Operating junction temperature range is 0°C to 125°C — the lower bound excludes cold-start below freezing, so for outdoor or unconditioned enclosures a wider-temperature variant is needed. Built-in over-temperature shutdown and reverse-polarity protection allow the regulator to survive a miswired input or a sustained overload without external clamp diodes. The TO-220-3 tab is the thermal path — a heatsink with forced air or a large copper area on the PCB drops the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance enough to sustain the full 1.5 A at elevated ambient.

RoHS3 compliant. No official second-source or pin-compatible alternative is recorded — the part is sole-sourced from TI.
