8-channel level translator with auto-direction sensing
The Texas Instruments TXS0108EZXYR is an 8-channel bidirectional voltage-level translator that uses auto-direction sensing to eliminate the need for a direction-control pin. It supports data rates up to 60 Mbps and can translate between any two voltage nodes from 1.4 V up to 5.5 V, making it suitable for mixed-voltage systems in industrial control, sensor interfaces, and general-purpose I/O expansion where the bus direction changes dynamically.
Because the translator is bidirectional, a single device handles both directions on each of the eight channels — useful for I2C, SPI, or UART buses where the direction is not fixed.
60 Mbps data rate and output drive
Rated for 60 Mbps, the TXS0108EZXYR can pass high-speed signals like SPI clock lines or parallel GPIO updates without adding significant propagation delay. The output stage supports both open-drain and push-pull configurations — open-drain for multi-drop buses like I2C, push-pull for point-to-point links where faster edge rates are needed.
The TXS0108E is available in the same 20-UFBGA package and maintains the same supply voltage ranges and 60 Mbps data rate.
The 20-UFBGA (Microstar Junior) package measures 2.5 mm x 3.0 mm with a 0.5 mm ball pitch. The small footprint suits space-constrained designs, but the fine pitch means PCB routing needs careful fan-out — typically micro-vias or via-in-pad for the inner balls.
