10 Gbps linear ReDriver for USB 3.1 Gen 2
The TUSB1042IRNQT is a 10 Gbps linear ReDriver from Texas Instruments, purpose-built for USB 3.1 Gen 2 signal integrity. It compensates for channel loss on long PCB traces or cable runs, re-equalizing the eye diagram before the receiver. Operating from a single 3V to 3.6V supply, it draws power from the same rail as the host controller or hub — no additional regulator needed for the ReDriver itself.
Signal conditioning and input equalization
Input equalization compensates for frequency-dependent attenuation in the channel — the ReDriver boosts the high-frequency content that gets lost over FR-4 traces longer than a few inches or through a cable assembly. The 10 pF input capacitance is low enough that it does not load the upstream transmitter's output stage; the ReDriver presents a high-impedance tap on the bus. As a linear ReDriver (not a retimer), it passes the full 10 Gbps signal without clock recovery — the downstream PHY still handles CDR, so the ReDriver adds no latency beyond the propagation delay of the silicon.
