RS-232 link for mixed-voltage industrial boards
The 300 mV receiver hysteresis filters noise on long cable runs common in factory-floor serial links.
Supply flexibility and data-rate ceiling
The 3V to 5.5V supply range lets the transceiver run directly off a 3.3V MCU rail or a legacy 5V backplane — no extra regulator or level shifter needed. At 500 kbps, the device supports standard RS-232 baud rates up to 115200 with margin; the actual throughput limit is set by the cable capacitance and driver slew rate, not the IC.
Active production — no obsolescence pressure
The 20-TSSOP package is a standard footprint shared across the TRS3222E family, simplifying second-sourcing or alternate TI variants if supply tightens.
Package and board integration
Surface-mount 20-TSSOP (4.40 mm body width) — the 0.65 mm pin pitch routes cleanly on a two-layer board; the exposed pad is not present, so no thermal-via planning needed.
