What this USB Type-C controller does on your board
The TPS65987DDHRSHR is a USB Type-C and Power Delivery controller from Texas Instruments — it handles the CC pin negotiation, role detection, and PD policy engine for a Type-C port. The part draws 8 mA from a 3.14 V to 3.45 V rail, so the 3.3 V bus feeding it needs tight regulation; a standard 3.3 V switcher with 5 % ripple may push the supply outside the window on load transients.
Rated for -10°C to 75°C ambient — that is commercial grade. It works in a docking station, a monitor, or a consumer laptop charger. For an outdoor kiosk or an automotive cabin application, the 75°C ceiling is tight; you would need airflow or a derating check on the package power dissipation.
The 56-VQFN (7x7 mm) package has an exposed thermal pad underneath. On a rework bench with hot air, the part is swappable if the board has a solder dam around the pad — otherwise the pad wicks paste and the part floats.
