The Texas Instruments TPS65983BAZBHR is a USB Type-C controller handling power delivery (PD) negotiation, cable orientation detection, and role management for USB-C ports. It integrates the CC (configuration channel) logic and VBUS switches needed to implement a full-featured Type-C port with PD up to 100 W. Supply voltage spans 4.5V to 22V, covering standard USB bus power (5V) through PD negotiated voltages up to 20V. Quiescent current sits at 58 µA, low enough for always-on port detection in battery-powered hosts.
96-ball BGA — layout and rework realities
Packaged in a 96-VFBGA (also listed as 96-NFBGA, 6x6 mm body). The 0.50 mm ball pitch demands a controlled-impedance PCB stack-up and a solder-mask-defined pad design. No exposed thermal pad — heat dissipates through the BGA balls into the board copper. Surface-mount only — no socketed variant exists, so field replacement requires hot-air rework and a stencil.
Temperature grade — indoor commercial kit, not the dashboard
Operating temperature range is -10°C to 85°C.
