Obsolete OMAP companion PMIC — sourcing reality
The TPS65920BZCHR is a power management IC originally designed as a companion PMIC for TI's OMAP application processors. It integrates multiple voltage rails, sequencing, and housekeeping functions for a mobile handset or portable OMAP-based system.
Supply range and quiescent current — battery-fit check
The input supply range spans 2.7 V to 4.5 V, which directly covers a single-cell Li-ion battery across its full discharge curve (3.0 V to 4.2 V nominal, with headroom at both ends). The 300 µA supply current is the IC's own consumption — the load on the battery from the PMIC itself is under 0.3 mA, leaving nearly all the battery budget for the OMAP core and peripherals. For a design that has already migrated off OMAP, this input range still works with any 3.3 V or 3.6 V regulated rail, but the sequencing and voltage setpoints were tuned for the OMAP power-up protocol.
Package and temperature — BGA rework and thermal profile
The 139-ball NFBGA measures 10 mm x 10 mm. That is a 0.50 mm pitch BGA — the ball diameter and pad size demand a controlled impedance stack-up and a solder mask defined pad on the PCB. For rework, the NFBGA body is thin (nominal 0.8 mm), so the hot-air profile must ramp slowly below 183°C to avoid package cracking from moisture popcorning — bake at 125°C for 24 hours if the floor life has been exceeded.
