Power management IC for portable designs — now in the surplus channel
The Texas Instruments TPS6591102A2ZRCR is an integrated power management IC (PMIC) targeting portable equipment — think handheld instruments, battery-powered medical monitors, and field-data terminals that need multiple regulated rails from a single battery voltage. Its 2.7V to 5.5V supply range covers single-cell Li-ion (3.0-4.2V nominal) and dual-cell alkaline or NiMH packs, so the PMIC can run directly off the battery without a front-end boost or buck pre-regulator.
The 98-VFBGA package (TI calls it BGA MICROSTAR JUNIOR) measures 9x6 mm with a 0.50 mm ball pitch — a compact footprint that saves board area but demands a multi-layer PCB with microvia fan-out under the balls. Surface-mount assembly is standard, but rework on a 0.50 mm pitch BGA requires a hot-air station with a fine nozzle and X-ray inspection to confirm ball wetting; the MSL level should be verified from the date code before the bake decision.
