Triple-rail buck for multi-voltage boards
The Texas Instruments TPS65580PWPR is a triple-output, adjustable step-down (buck) regulator from the D-CAP2™ family. It delivers 1.5 A on one channel and 2.5 A on the other two. The adjustable output can be set from 0.764 V up to 7 V.
700 kHz switching — inductor size vs. efficiency
The fixed 700 kHz switching frequency lets you use smaller inductors. The synchronous rectifier replaces the freewheeling diode with a low-Rds(on) FET. At 700 kHz the output ripple is easier to filter with ceramic caps, but the loop compensation must account for the D-CAP2™ architecture — it uses an emulated ripple ramp, so the output capacitor ESR still matters for stability.
