What this power manager does on the board
The Texas Instruments TPS65510RGTR is a power management IC built for systems that need a single-chip supervisor with built-in fault handling. It integrates over-current, over-temperature, and over/under-voltage protection into one 16-VQFN package, so a single part can monitor and shut down a power rail when something goes wrong.
Fault protection — what trips and what does not
Three protection domains are on-chip: over-current shuts the output when the load pulls beyond the internal threshold; over-temperature protects the die if the board gets hot or airflow stalls; over/under-voltage monitors the input rail for brownout or overvoltage events. No external comparators or supervisor ICs needed — this one part handles the watchdog role. Because the protection is integrated, the BOM count drops. But the trade-off is that the thresholds are fixed inside the chip — you cannot adjust the trip points with external resistors. If your rail tolerance is tighter than what the IC expects, you still need a separate supervisor.
