Triple-output buck for multi-rail boards
The Texas Instruments TPS65288RHAT is a triple-output synchronous buck regulator in a 40-VFQFN exposed-pad package. It delivers one 3A and two 2A adjustable outputs from a 4.5V to 18V input rail, with the switching frequency programmable from 300 kHz to 2.2 MHz.
3A/2A output rating — sizing the rails
The 3A and 2A current ratings are per-output maximums, not summed — the total power dissipation is limited by the package's thermal resistance. If your design needs a single 5A rail, this isn't the part; the triple-output topology is for distributing lower-current rails, not one high-current bus.
Switching frequency range — inductor vs. efficiency trade
The 300 kHz to 2.2 MHz programmable range lets you shift the switching frequency up to shrink the inductor footprint or down to improve efficiency at heavy loads. At 2.2 MHz the inductor can be a 1 µH chip, but switching losses climb; at 300 kHz you'll need a larger 10 µH part but gain a few points of efficiency. The frequency is set by a resistor to ground, so it's a one-time BOM decision — no dynamic scaling.
Package and rework — 40-VQFN with exposed pad
The 40-VFQFN (6x6 mm) with exposed pad is a standard QFN footprint. Rework is doable with hot air if you preheat the board; the exposed pad makes alignment forgiving, but the small 0.5 mm pitch on the perimeter leads means you'll want a stencil and paste, not a soldering iron.
