PMIC for single-cell Li-ion portable systems
The Texas Instruments TPS65217DRSLR is a power management IC (PMIC) integrating multiple regulators, a battery charger, and LED drivers into a single 48-VFQFN package. The input supply range spans 2.75 V to 5.8 V, covering single-cell Li-ion (3.0 V to 4.2 V typical) and USB VBUS (5.0 V nominal) without an external pre-regulator.
Package and thermal design note
The 48-VFQFN with exposed pad (6x6 mm body) requires a thermal land pattern on the PCB to pull heat from the die. Without that thermal path, the junction temperature rises above the 105°C limit under combined load. The exposed pad also serves as the primary ground return for the power stage — layout inductance between pad and ground plane directly affects switching noise on the output rails.
