What this PMIC does in an LCD panel
The Texas Instruments TPS65162RGZR is a power management IC built specifically for LCD TV and monitor applications. It integrates the multiple regulated rails — gate-on, gate-off, source driver, and logic supplies — that a TFT-LCD panel needs, from a single 8V to 14.7V input rail.
Supply rail and thermal considerations for the board
The 8V to 14.7V input range means this PMIC can run directly off a standard 12V LCD backlight supply or a regulated 9V-12V brick. No pre-regulator needed as long as the input stays inside that window — a 5V-only bus won't cut it. The datasheet's recommended via pattern under the pad is not optional — skipping it derates the output current capability at elevated ambient.
