2-3 cell Li-ion charging with I²C programmability
The TPS65090ARVNT: This PMIC handles 2 to 3 series Li-ion or Li-Polymer cells, with a programmable constant-current charge profile that the host sets over the I²C interface. The maximum charge current is 4 A, which defines the inductor and sense-resistor sizing on the power stage. The I²C bus also gives the system access to charge status, fault flags, and termination voltage configuration — the firmware engineer needs to budget a few hundred bytes of code for the initialization sequence and fault polling.
100-VQFN-MR — thermal pad is part of the circuit
Surface-mount assembly with the exposed pad means the reflow profile must include a soak zone long enough to wet the pad fully — a standard JEDEC profile for a 9x9 mm QFN works, but the inner-row pads reduce the clearance for fan-out traces on a two-layer board.
Maximum supply voltage is 17 V, which covers typical 2- and 3-cell Li-ion stacks (8.4 V and 12.6 V nominal) plus headroom for the input adapter.
