Charge current and input voltage — sizing the power path
The 500 mA maximum charge current sets the charge-time floor for a given battery capacity — a 1000 mAh cell charges in roughly two hours at this rate. The programmable constant-current loop lets you dial it down for smaller cells or thermal budget. Maximum supply input is 5.5 V, which covers standard 5 V USB bus voltage with margin for cable drop and ripple. The I²C interface reads back charge status and adjusts termination voltage — the battery pack voltage is fixed at 4.2 V.
Package and thermal — the exposed pad matters
Without a via-stitched pad under the device, the junction temperature rises quickly above 400 mA continuous charge current. The supplier device package is 48-VQFN (7x7), and the mounting is surface mount only.
