Active negative-rail source for analog and sensor bias
The TPS63710DRRR is a Texas Instruments inverting buck regulator that generates a clean negative output from a positive input rail — a topology that is less common than positive buck converters but essential when an analog front-end, op-amp supply, or sensor bias chain needs a negative voltage. Input range is 3.1 V to 14 V, output is adjustable from -1 V down to -5.5 V, and the part delivers up to 1 A continuous. Synchronous rectification keeps efficiency higher than a diode-based inverting buck, which matters when the load is a few hundred milliamps and the thermal budget is tight. The switching frequency is 1.5 MHz, letting the output inductor and capacitor stay small.
Output voltage adjustability and thermal envelope
The adjustable output covers -1 V to -5.5 V. The 1.5 MHz switching frequency keeps the LC filter components small, but the layout must keep the switch node and feedback trace short to avoid noise injection into the output.
