Buck-boost topology — one inductor, both directions
This is a single-inductor buck-boost regulator that can step up or step down the input voltage while keeping the output regulated.
3.5 A switch current — sizing the load budget
In a typical 3.3 V output from a 3.6 V input, you can expect around 2 A continuous output before the current limit engages. The 2.4 MHz switching frequency keeps the inductor small — a 2.2 µH or 3.3 µH shielded part is usually enough — and pushes the switching noise above the audio band.
The package is a 14-VFDFN with an exposed thermal pad, listed as 14-VSON (4x3 mm). Under a hot-air station, preheat the board to 150 °C before hitting the pad — the exposed pad soaks heat fast, and without preheat you risk lifting the pad or cold-jointing the perimeter pins.
If the design lives under the hood or in a downhole tool, you will need a wider-range part — this one stops at 85 °C.
