Synchronous buck converter for 2.5-V to 5.5-V rails
The 2.4 MHz switching frequency keeps the inductor small — typically a 1 µH to 2.2 µH shielded part — which helps on dense boards where every mm² counts. Output is adjustable from 0.6 V up to the input voltage, so it can serve 1.2-V core rails, 1.8-V I/O, 3.3-V peripheral supply, or a 5-V USB bus — one part covers multiple BOM positions if you can share the inductor value.
Thermal and package reality for the layout
Housed in a SOT-563 package (1.6 mm × 1.6 mm typical), the TPS62A02DRLR demands careful thermal design. The synchronous rectifier is integrated, so no external Schottky diode is needed — that saves a component and a placement cost, but the internal high-side and low-side FETs still dissipate heat. The 2.4 MHz switching speed also means the input capacitor should be a low-ESR MLCC placed within 2 mm of the VIN pin to keep switching loops tight.
