9 A automotive buck in a 2.55x3.55 mm VQFN
The TPS62871QWRXSRQ1 is a 9 A continuous-rated synchronous buck regulator from Texas Instruments, part of the Automotive AEC-Q100 series. It accepts an input from 2.7 V to 6 V and delivers a programmable output from 0.4 V up to 3.35 V. The 16-TFQFN Exposed Pad package with wettable flank supports automated optical inspection (AOI) — a requirement for high-volume automotive PCB assembly lines.
Switching frequency selection and inductor sizing
The switching frequency is pin-selectable among 1.5 MHz, 2.25 MHz, 2.5 MHz, and 3 MHz. A higher frequency shrinks the inductor footprint but increases switching losses; the 1.5 MHz setting favours efficiency, while 3 MHz minimises the LC filter size for space-constrained ECU modules. The synchronous rectifier is integrated, eliminating the external Schottky diode and reducing the BOM count. The output is programmable via an external resistor divider, covering the full 0.4 V to 3.35 V range.
It is ROHS3 compliant. For current BOM positions, there is no last-time-buy pressure; the part is sourced per RFQ against the required quantity. The 16-VQFN (2.55x3.55 mm) package with exposed pad requires a thermal via array under the paddle to keep junction temperature within limits at 9 A continuous load.
