4A point-of-load buck in a 1.5x1.5 mm footprint
The TPS62827DMQT is a 4A synchronous step-down (buck) converter from Texas Instruments, designed to deliver a regulated adjustable output from a 2.5V to 5.5V input rail. The 2.2MHz switching frequency lets you use small 0603 or 0805 inductors and ceramic output capacitors, keeping the total solution area tight for space-constrained point-of-load rails.
Input and output voltage boundaries
Input range spans 2.5V minimum to 5.5V maximum — covers 3.3V and 5V intermediate buses, single-cell Li-ion, and 5V USB rails. The adjustable output goes from a 0.6V reference up to 4V, so it can feed 1.2V core, 1.8V I/O, 2.5V analog, or 3.3V peripheral rails from the same BOM entry.
Thermal range and package reality
The 6-VSON-HR package (1.5x1.5 mm body) with an exposed thermal pad requires a solid copper pour on the top layer and at least two thermal vias to keep the junction below 125°C at full 4A load — the datasheet layout example is worth following closely.
Synchronous rectification and efficiency
The 4A continuous output is real — the package thermal performance, not the silicon, sets the practical limit in a 25°C ambient with minimal airflow.
