Automotive-grade 2A buck for under-hood rails
The TPS628120MQWRWYRQ1 is a fixed-output 1.8V step-down buck converter from TI's automotive-grade portfolio, rated for 2A continuous output. It integrates a synchronous rectifier.
Switching frequency: inductor size vs efficiency trade
The 1.8MHz-to-4MHz switching range is the key BOM lever. At 4 MHz the inductor value drops to sub-1 µH, saving board area and component height — useful in a 9-VFQFN (3x2 mm) layout.
2.75V to 6V input — single-cell Li-ion and 5V rails
The input range spans 2.75V to 6V, covering single-cell Li-ion (3.0V–4.2V) and regulated 5V supplies. The 2A output supports powering a 1.8V core rail for an MCU, FPGA, or SoC with margin. The synchronous rectifier keeps the dropout low at high load, so the output stays regulated even as the input sags toward 2.75V.
9-VFQFN with wettable flank for AOI
The 9-VFQFN (3x2 mm) package with wettable flanks allows automated optical inspection (AOI) of the solder joints on the side — a requirement for automotive production lines.
The base product number TPS628120 covers multiple fixed-output voltage options in the same footprint, so a voltage change later does not force a layout revision.
