4A automotive buck in a 3×2 mm VFQFN
The TPS62810QWRWYRQ1 is a Texas Instruments step-down buck converter rated for 4 A continuous output, switching between 1.8 MHz and 4 MHz.
Switching frequency and inductor selection
The 1.8 MHz to 4 MHz switching range lets you trade off inductor size against switching losses. At 4 MHz the inductor can be as small as 0.47 µH, shrinking the total solution footprint; at 1.8 MHz the efficiency peaks for higher step-down ratios.
Wettable flank package for AOI
The 9-VFQFN-HR (3×2 mm) package uses wettable flanks — the side pads are plated so solder fillets are visible to automated optical inspection after reflow. This is a standard requirement for automotive Tier-1 production lines that cannot rely on bottom-only x-ray inspection. The surface-mount, wettable flank package mates to a standard 9-pin VFQFN footprint.
For new automotive designs this means no forced redesign cycle from an impending EOL.
