Under-hood power rail: TPS628100MQWRWYRQ1
The Texas Instruments TPS628100MQWRWYRQ1 is an automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) synchronous step-down buck converter delivering a fixed 1.8V output at up to 4A from a 2.75V to 6V input rail. It is designed for point-of-load regulation in automotive ECUs, ADAS sensors, and infotainment systems where the ambient temperature under the hood or inside the cabin can reach 125°C junction.
Switching frequency and inductor sizing
The 1.8MHz to 4MHz switching frequency range lets the designer trade off efficiency against inductor size. At 4MHz the external inductor can drop to 0.47 µH or 1.0 µH, shrinking the total solution footprint for space-constrained automotive modules.
Wettable flank package for AOI
The 9-VFQFN-HR (3x2 mm) package with wettable flanks allows automated optical inspection of the solder joints after reflow — a requirement in many automotive production lines. The surface-mount, wettable-flank package sits flat on the PCB and the exposed pad provides a low thermal impedance path to the board copper.
