Dual-mode buck-boost for portable power rails
The TPS62770YFPT combines step-down (buck) and step-up (boost) topologies in a single 16-DSBGA package, letting a single PMIC generate both a low-voltage core rail and a higher-voltage bias rail from a 2.5V to 5.5V input. The two outputs are independently programmable: the buck channel delivers up to 300 mA, while the boost channel provides 30 mA, 100 mA, or 200 mA depending on the programmed output voltage.
Parametric deep-dive: output flexibility and thermal envelope
The buck output can be set between 1V and 3V; the boost output offers fixed 4.5V or 12V options, with a maximum of 15V. That 12V boost rail is useful for biasing MEMS microphones or small LCD backlight strings directly from a Li-ion battery. The 1.05 MHz switching frequency keeps external inductor and capacitor values small, shrinking the total solution footprint. The synchronous rectifier on both channels improves efficiency at light loads, critical for extending battery run time in portable instruments.
The part is ROHS3 compliant.
Housed in a 16-DSBGA measuring 1.6x1.6 mm, the part requires a 4-layer or higher PCB for fan-out of the 0.5 mm pitch balls. The small package makes it a fit for wearable, hearable, and IoT module designs where board area is scarce.
