Fixed 3 V rail at 800 mA — what it powers
The TPS62698YFDR is a synchronous step-down (buck) regulator from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 3 V output at up to 800 mA from a 2.3 V to 4.8 V input. The 3 MHz switching frequency lets you use a 1 µH or smaller inductor and a 4.7 µF output cap, shrinking the total solution footprint to about 10 mm².
3 MHz switching — why it matters for the BOM
At 3 MHz, the switching frequency sits above the AM radio band and well into the region where inductor and capacitor values drop. A typical application needs a 1 µH inductor rated for 1 A saturation and a 4.7 µF ceramic output capacitor — both 0603 or 0402 size. That keeps the passive cost and board area low, but it also pushes the switching losses higher than a 1 MHz part would see.
6-DSBGA package — layout gotcha
There are no leads to inspect — the bumps reflow directly onto the PCB pads. The small body (about 1.3 mm × 0.9 mm) saves board area, but the exposed bumps mean the board must have a solder-mask-defined pad pattern and a stencil aperture that matches the bump diameter.
