Fixed 2.85 V rail at 500 mA — what it fits
The TPS62690YFFT is a synchronous step-down (buck) regulator from Texas Instruments that delivers a fixed 2.85 V output at up to 500 mA from a 2.3 V to 4.8 V input rail. That output voltage is a common supply for low-voltage digital cores, sensor bias, or serial-interface transceivers — anything that needs a regulated 2.85 V without an external resistor divider.
Input range and thermal envelope
Input voltage range is 2.3 V to 4.8 V — it runs from a single Li-ion cell (3.0–4.2 V) or a 3.3 V / 5 V regulated rail. The 2.85 V fixed output is within the dropout budget at the low end: with 2.3 V in, the headroom is only about 550 mV, so the pass FET must be fully enhanced — the datasheet dropout voltage at 500 mA should be checked against the minimum input.
The 6-DSBGA package is MSL-rated — confirm the floor-life rating before opening the reel to avoid a moisture bake that stalls the line.
The 6-DSBGA (6-ball, 0.4 mm pitch wafer-level chip-scale) package is the smallest footprint for this regulator — about 1.2 mm × 0.9 mm. The trade-off is that the solder balls are not inspectable by eye; X-ray or cross-section is needed to verify joint integrity. The PCB land pattern should match TI's recommended stencil aperture to avoid head-in-pillow defects.
