What the 6 MHz switching buys you on the board
The TPS62660YFFT is a 6 MHz fixed-frequency synchronous buck regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering a fixed 1.8V output at up to 1A from a 2.3V to 5.5V input rail. The 6 MHz switching rate is the key enabler for small external inductors and capacitors — typically a 1 µH inductor and 4.7 µF output cap fit the bill, keeping the total solution footprint tight for portable or space-constrained boards. The fixed output voltage (1.8V) means no feedback divider resistors are needed — the output is set internally, which simplifies the layout and removes two resistors from the BOM.
Package and assembly reality: 6-DSBGA
The 6-DSBGA package (6-bump wafer-level chip-scale) measures approximately 1.3 mm × 0.9 mm — the bumps are on a 0.5 mm pitch. This is a direct-attach package with no leads; the solder bumps connect to the PCB pads. The small size is an advantage for miniaturised designs, but the package requires a solder-paste stencil with precise aperture alignment and a reflow profile matched to the bump alloy. The rework lab should have a hot-air nozzle that covers the package without overheating adjacent components. Because the package has no exposed thermal pad, heat dissipation relies on the PCB copper plane under the bumps.
