Dual-rail automotive buck in a 3×3 mm VSON
It delivers one 400 mA rail and one 600 mA rail from a single 2.5 V to 6 V input, switching at 2.3 MHz to keep the external inductor and capacitor small enough for space-constrained ECU and ADAS sensor module layouts.
2.3 MHz switching — inductor footprint trade-off
The 2.3 MHz switching frequency lets the designer use a 1 µH to 2.2 µH inductor and 10 µF output capacitors, shrinking the power stage to fit a 10-VSON (3×3 mm) footprint. The trade-off is switching losses that reduce efficiency at very light loads — below 10 mA the part stays in PWM mode, so the quiescent current is higher than a PFM part would deliver.
