Dual-rail power for space-constrained designs
The TPS62400DRCR is a dual-output step-down (buck) regulator from Texas Instruments, delivering 400 mA on one channel and 600 mA on the other from a 2.5 V to 6 V input rail. The 2.25 MHz switching frequency lets you use small 0603 or 0805 inductors and ceramic capacitors, shrinking the total power-stage footprint to fit under 50 mm² on a two-layer board. Typical applications include powering the core and I/O rails of a dual-supply MCU, or splitting the RF front-end and digital logic on a battery-operated sensor node.
Load budget and thermal margin
The 400 mA / 600 mA current rating is per-output continuous at the rated input range. In a typical 3.3 V to 1.8 V / 1.2 V conversion, the combined output power is under 3 W, so the exposed thermal pad on the 10-VSON (3x3 mm) package keeps the junction below 85°C in still air if the pad is soldered to a 1 in² copper pour. The 2.5 V minimum input covers single-cell Li-ion (3.0–4.2 V) and 3.3 V regulated rails. At 6 V maximum input, it also tolerates 5 V USB or 5 V regulated supplies without an external pre-regulator.
