The 500 mA output — what it really powers
500 mA continuous output is enough for a single MCU plus a few peripherals, a Bluetooth LE module, or a small sensor cluster. It is not a board-level bus regulator for a multi-amp rail. The 3 MHz switching means the inductor can be 1 µH to 2.2 µH, which fits a 0805 or smaller footprint — but the fast edges demand tight loop routing: input cap as close as possible to the PVIN pin, output cap right at the inductor output.
The TPS62320YEDT is listed as obsolete. That is not a last-time-buy window you missed — it is a discontinued line. For a repair bench, that means the scorch mark on the board tells you which part died, but finding a real replacement means sourcing from independent distribution or qualifying an alternate regulator with the same footprint and pinout.
